BudsCanvas Fresh48 Hospital Photography

The tiny fingers. The sleepy stretches. The hospital bassinet beside your bed. The first time an older sibling says hello.

A Fresh 48 photography session captures the beautiful, fleeting moments of your baby’s first 48 hours—naturally and honestly, before you leave the hospital and begin your new life at home.

No elaborate posing. No studio setup. Just your family, your newborn and the beginning of a story you will want to remember forever.

A Gentle, Natural Approach

We do not bring large studio equipment, elaborate props or complicated newborn setups into the hospital. Your room, your baby’s bassinet and the soft connection between your family provide everything we need.
We may offer gentle guidance on where to sit or how to position yourselves near the available light, but we will never force a moment. If your baby needs to be fed, changed or comforted, that becomes part of your story.
Every session is approached with patience, sensitivity and respect for your family’

FAQ

What Preparation is required?

There is very little you need to prepare. Your Fresh 48 session should feel easy during a time when your attention belongs with your baby.
Before we arrive, you may wish to:
- Dress your baby in a simple onesie, wrap or hospital clothing
- Choose comfortable, neutral-coloured outfits for the parents
- Keep the area beside the bed reasonably clear
- Place sentimental items nearby if you would like them photographed
- Let us know if siblings or grandparents will be joining
- Inform the hospital that a photographer will be visiting
Soft whites, creams, beige, muted pastels and earthy shades photograph beautifully in hospital rooms. Clothing with large logos or busy patterns is best avoided.
Most importantly, do not worry about making yourself or the room look perfect. You have just welcomed a baby. The beauty is already there.

Fresh 48 Photography or a Newborn Portrait Session?

Both experiences celebrate your newborn, but they preserve different parts of the story.
A Fresh 48 session takes place at the hospital during your baby’s first days. It is natural, intimate and documentary in style.
A newborn portrait session takes place after you return home or at a planned photography setting. It allows more time for styling, wraps, props, family portraits and carefully guided newborn poses.
Many families choose both: Fresh 48 photographs to remember the very beginning, followed by a newborn session to create beautifully styled portraits of their growing family.

Is Fresh 48 the same as birth photography?

No. Birth photography usually documents labour and the delivery itself. A Fresh 48 session takes place after your baby has arrived, once both mother and baby are settled and ready to receive visitors.
We do not photograph the delivery or medical procedures as part of a Fresh 48 session.

When should I book?

We recommend reserving your session during your second or early third trimester. As the timing of each session depends on when a baby arrives, we accept only a limited number of bookings around each estimated delivery period.

How can we select a date if we do not know when the baby will arrive?

Your booking will be based on your estimated delivery date. Once labour begins, an induction or Caesarean section is scheduled, or your baby arrives, simply update us by WhatsApp.
We will then coordinate the visit based on your recovery, hospital arrangements and photographer availability.

When will the session take place?

The session will usually take place within the first 24 to 48 hours after birth. However, the wellbeing of mother and baby will always come first.
If additional recovery time is needed, we will discuss the most suitable options with you.

How long does the session take?

A typical Fresh 48 session lasts approximately 1 hour. We keep the experience relaxed and allow time for feeding, changing and soothing when necessary. In fact, these moments are generally perfect for photography as well.

Does the hospital allow photography?

Hospital and ward policies may differ. Parents should confirm that personal photography and photographer visits are permitted in their room.
Any hospital registration, visitor approval or access requirements must be arranged before the session. We will always respect the instructions of hospital and medical staff.

What if my baby requires special care or is admitted to the NICU?

The health of your baby comes first. Photography in special-care areas is subject to hospital permission and medical guidance.
Please update us when you are able, and we will discuss whether the session should be postponed, adapted or converted to another suitable newborn experience.

What if the room is small or untidy?

That is completely normal. We are experienced in working within hospital rooms and will make the best use of the available space and light.
A small amount of clearing near the bed or window is helpful, but there is no need to prepare the entire room.
